We feel we have the finest line of any upland hunting dogs currently being bred. This is proven by four all-breed National Championships. To the best of our knowledge, we have the only Boykin Spaniels that have won all-breed hunting dog National Championships. Betsy and Chip's offspring include six National All-Breed Field Champions. Our own dogs spend approximately 80-100 days hunting upland birds including sharptail, sage and blue grouse, Hungarian partridges, pheasants, mearns, bobwhite, gambels and scaled quail and ducks. The dogs handle all of these birds equally well. They also adapt well to the varying temperatures we incur in the Montana area. We've hunted in temperatures hovering around 98º F in early September, to -10º F in late December .
Our Boykins are strong retrievers, have great noses and super tracking instinct and ability. We primarily hunt on heavily hunted public land and will, most seasons, shoot up to 100 wild pheasants. There's a lot of tall cattails and of 100 birds shot, we only lost a total of three crippled birds. These are high performance bird hunting dogs for avid hunters. They have tremendous bird-drive, endurance, enthusiasm and lovability. Our dogs tend to be a little bigger (females weighing 35-42 lbs ; males 38-48 lbs), with a bit more height. Typically our pups have straight or wavy coats which we've found to be easier to care for in the field (burrs, etc.). In the last 11 years of hunting, we've never had a ripped pad (knock-on-wood) or broken toe-nail and we hunt some of the most inhospitable terrain in the western USA. Our western-bred Boykins are bred to have more leg to handle the terrain and open spaces of the west.
